A lovely client of mine brought up an interesting point recently that caused me to reflect. He wondered why he still felt like he was struggling and questioning his life when so many around him seemed quite content with their situation. He had already done a lot of personal work and self-awareness but it did not bring him the peace he sought.

He asked “what’s wrong with me; I’m a good person, I nice to people, I’m kind and generous but somehow its not enough”

We both laughed light heartedly at our common predicament and both knew it was not enough.

It seems to me that success in the outer world is not enough any more. Whether it’s financial success or career success, many now seek a more spiritual connection. Superficial success is limited; we need to be more authentic, this is the epitome of true self expression and it bring happiness, peace and spiritual wholeness.

I think this is getting close to what Maslow called Self Actualisation and shows a tremendous growth in the potential of man who wants to live life with purpose, fulfillment and meaning.   This is relatively unchartered territory of many of us but I love that some have the courage to start the journey and to look inside.  There are many subtle changes in the world and the times are changing.
So as well as being nice to everyone else, being kind and generous to others we now have to be kinder and more gentle with ourselves. That’s the new challenge.

What do you think?
