PART THREE OF THREE: THE NOT GOOD ENOUGH SERIES

A gentle three-step journey to let go of the past, restore harmony within, and consciously create the future you choose.

People rarely come to see me because they want kinesiology.

They come because something in their life isn’t working.

Perhaps they’re living with anxiety that won’t switch off. They’re exhausted despite getting enough sleep. Their digestion has become unreliable. Their body hurts. Their relationships feel difficult. Or they’ve reached a point where they simply know they can’t keep living the way they have been.

They arrive wanting relief from the problem, yet together, we often discover something much more important.

The problem isn’t usually the real problem.

Over more than twenty-five years in practice, I’ve found that the symptoms people experience are often expressions of something much deeper. Beneath the anxiety, the physical pain, the digestive issues or the exhaustion lies unresolved stress. Beneath that stress is often a story that has quietly shaped the way they see themselves and the world around them for many years.

That is why my work isn’t simply about helping people feel better.

It is about helping people come home to themselves.

Although every person’s story is unique, the healing journey follows a remarkably similar pattern. Over the years I have found that it can be understood and transformed through three simple steps.

Why three?

Because healing doesn’t need to be complicated.

Three is the magic number; it gives us a simple map. It helps us understand where we are without becoming overwhelmed by the journey ahead. Simple, however, doesn’t always mean easy. Healing asks us to revisit parts of ourselves that we have spent years avoiding. It takes honesty, compassion and courage.

My role is not to fix people; you don’t need fixing. I believe my role is to provide the structure, the guidance and the support that allows each person to walk their own journey with greater understanding, compassion and confidence. I can always see the beautiful soul within each of my clients, so I help them to see it for themselves.

Step One — Let Go of the Past

Recognise what has been hidden.

Every meaningful journey begins by making peace with the past.

Many of us spend years trying to build a better future while quietly carrying emotional burdens that were never really ours to carry. As children, we naturally interpreted life through our own limited understanding. When love felt uncertain, when our needs weren’t met, or when the people around us were overwhelmed, we rarely concluded that something was difficult for them. Instead, we quietly assumed there must be something wrong with us.

From that innocent misunderstanding grew the beliefs, protective strategies and roles that helped us survive. We became the helper, the achiever, the responsible one or the peacemaker because those roles helped us maintain connection and belonging. They were never signs of weakness. They were intelligent adaptations made by a child trying to feel safe.

Many people then spend their lives trying to escape those early experiences. They work harder, achieve more, keep themselves busy or constantly strive for the next goal, believing that if they can just do better, create a better future, the pain of the past will finally disappear.

Yet when our future is built on escaping the past, the past continues to lead.

Healing begins somewhere different.

Rather than running away from our story, what if we gently turn towards it, we acknowledge what happened, we honour the younger version of ourselves who did the very best they could with the understanding they had. Only then can we grieve what was missing and we recognise the strength it took to survive.

Compassion gradually softens self-judgement.

Acceptance creates the possibility of letting go.

Letting go does not mean forgetting the past or pretending it didn’t matter. It means releasing the emotional grip those experiences continue to have on us, so they no longer determine how we see ourselves or how we respond to life today.

Only when we make peace with the past are we truly free to move forward.

Step Two — Restore Harmony Within

Restore harmony within.

As we begin releasing the emotional weight of the past, something quietly shifts within us.

The nervous system doesn’t need to work quite so hard to protect us. The mind begins to calm down because it is no longer constantly scanning for danger. The body, which has faithfully carried years of unresolved stress, finally has an opportunity to relax.

As stress reduces, the body’s natural intelligence begins to re-emerge. The nervous system becomes more regulated. The glandular system can regain balance. Sleep often improves. Digestion returns to nourishing. Energy begins to return. The body is no longer spending every day preparing for danger.

This is where harmony begins.

The body becomes calmer.

The mind becomes clearer.

And the deeper essence of who we are has space to emerge.

For many years we may have lived from old subconscious survival patterns, looking outside ourselves for approval, certainty or permission. Gradually that external focus begins to soften, and our attention turns inward. Instead of asking, What do other people need from me? We begin asking, What feels right for me?

Healing is not about changing who we are. It is about removing everything that has prevented us from being who we have always been. As harmony returns, we trust ourselves a little more.

We become kinder to ourselves.

We recognise our needs without guilt.

We begin expressing our values more honestly.

Instead of living from unconscious survival, we begin living from conscious awareness.

Step Three — Create the Future You Choose

Reveal your authentic essence.

Once we make peace with the past and restore harmony within ourselves, creating the future becomes a very different experience.

The future changes organically because we have changed.

When we are no longer reacting from fear, old wounds or subconscious survival patterns, our choices naturally become different. We choose healthier relationships because we value ourselves more deeply. We establish clearer boundaries because we recognise that our needs matter too. We pursue work that feels meaningful because we are no longer driven solely by approval or achievement.

Life begins to reflect who we are becoming rather than what we have been trying to escape. Another question also changes. Instead of asking, What ‘should’ I do? we begin asking, what do I want?

That single shift changes everything.

  • Different choices create different relationships.
  • Different opportunities.
  • Different conversations.
  • Different habits.
  • Different futures.

Not because we are forcing life to change as a consequence of past pain, but because we are living from a different place within ourselves.

The beautiful unfolding

Nature has always been one of my greatest teachers.

Think for a moment about a tiny seed. Everything it needs to flourish already exists within it. The gardener doesn’t force it to grow or pull at its leaves. They simply create the right conditions: healthy soil, water, light and space. Given those conditions, the seed naturally unfolds into the fullest expression of what it was always created to become.

I believe we are much the same.

Beneath the stress, the emotional wounds, the subconscious patterns and the protective layers, lies the authentic essence of who we truly are. Healing isn’t about becoming someone different. It is about creating the conditions that allow that deeper part of us to gently emerge.

That is why I don’t believe healing is about fixing people; it is about revealing them.

People may first come to see me because of anxiety, chronic pain, digestive issues, exhaustion or the many other challenges that stress can create. Those concerns matter, and generally they improve naturally along the way.

But what they discover is something much greater; they discover themselves.

When we let go of what no longer serves us, restore harmony within ourselves and begin living from conscious choice rather than unconscious survival, we don’t become someone new. We simply become more fully ourselves. And I believe that is the greatest gift of all.

Not a life without challenges, but a life lived with greater peace, purpose, joy and authenticity. A life in which our choices reflect who we truly are rather than who we once believed we needed to be.

If there is one hope I carry for every person who walks through my door, it is this; that they leave with a deeper understanding of their own worth; a kinder relationship with themselves and the confidence to let their unique essence naturally unfold and be seen.

If this has resonated, I’d love to help you walk your own journey.
